Splendour in the Grass 2019, A time for many firsts for me.
My first time in Byron Bay, my first time attending a 3 day music festival, my first time camping at a festival and of course my first time peeing in a cup for the soul purpose of having access to clean bathrooms and free phone charging.
I wasn’t really sure what to expect walking into my first major 3 day festival, and on top of that camping for 5 days with a group of friends that were just as clueless as me, mistakes were bound to be made. So here’s what I learned…
Everyone would tell me how cold it gets and to pack layers, they weren’t wrong, as soon as the sun went down the layers came out! Although in the midst of packing layers upon layers I seemed to forget about the hot days that were ahead of me. In my case camping at the festival grounds and arriving a day before the festival begun turned the 3 day festival into a 4 day one. Forgetting about night number 1, all I had packed was 3 cute outfits and a bunch of warm and unflattering layers. This resulted in me stealing my more prepared friends clothes for the day. It all worked out but it wouldn’t have hurt to have a few of my own pieces that were bit more suited to the weather and the atmosphere.
Arriving to the camp site in the early hours of the morning the sun had already hit and was getting hotter by the minute. As the tents went up and the sweating started we came to the realisation that we didn’t have any shady area to sit under other than our tent which was already sauna like. We made do with some poles and a tarp (pic of our shocking efforts down below) but a gazebo definitely would have been ideal. Everyone else in the camp site seemed to have one but us! Clear amateurs.
When it would come to getting ready in the morning, showers weren’t really an option unless you were willing to wait 40 minutes in line for an average wash down. Baby wipes became my best friend and were an absolute lifesaver. A full face of sweaty foundation is never a look so after day 1 I learned that keeping it simple is key to staying cute for the day.
This was honestly one of the best weekends of my life with nothing but good vibes all round!
